In Paris, in 1929, there were some new concepts on display at the Salon d'Automne. Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and a young woman called Charlotte Perriand were responsible.
This furniture has not dated in the slightest, and even today fits perfectly with the modern home. This is mainly due to Le Corbusier's conviction that the binomial shape/function value must be expressed in the three dimensional manifestation of any daily used and useful object.
Outdoor versions have been developed based on the original drawings from 1928-30. Cassina has developed this project in close collaboration with the Le Corbusier Foundation and Pernette Perriand-Barsac, daughter and sole heir of Charlotte Perriand together with the consultancy of authoritative design historian, Professor Arthur Rüegg.
The materials and construction techniques of the LC Outdoor collection employed aim to provide maximum water, humidity and heat resistance in the extreme conditions of open-air use:
1. Structures in AISI 304 stainless steel, an iron-based alloy, which combines corrosion resistance with the typical mechanical properties of steels.
2. The internal part of the structures is TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welded, while the visible part is welded with silver and this inevitably creates the slight yellow halos typical of this type of process. The steel is then brushed to obtain an effect similar to chrome plating.
3. Water-draining polyurethane and draining padding comes in natural organic fiber;
According to the designer's heirs "all pieces of furniture which do not bear the logotype Cassina, the signature of Le Corbusier and the production number are counterfeits". All authentic Le Corbusier furniture is indelibly marked with the indicia shown below.
